BMW Concept 6-series revealed

With 2 weeks ahead of the Paris Motor Show, BMW has released the first pictures of the Concept 6-Series Coupe. Introduced in a concept form, the new 6 Series showcases the latest design trends at BMW.

Though it’s a concept, the 2+2 coupe is very close to the production car set to arrive in North America in mid-2011.

Flowing lines and aesthetically sculpted surfaces define the design of the BMW Concept 6 Series Coupé, in which classic BMW coupé styling cues are given a modern rendition. Among the innovative details featured in this concept study are full LED headlights and a newly designed, freestanding Control Display for the iDrive operating system. A fabric roof convertible version is also due in 2011.

BMW hasn’t provided official figures, but Munich insiders confirm that the new 6-series is virtually the same length though it’s a good deal wider and slightly lower than today’s car.

The cabin has an asymmetrical dashboard that hints at early BMWs by angling the centre console slightly towards the driver. “It’s a coupé, a driver’s car,” said van Hooydonk. BMW claims the iDrive multimedia screen is 10.2 inches across. Also, after Audi, Mercedes and Aston Martin, BMW’s teamed up with Bang & Olufsen for the hi-fi while other 5-series toys such as head-up displays are now available on the Six.
