This is my third Encore with the shearling lining, and it does live up to the line. I live in Colorado, and the early morning temperatures here can get below freezing for months on end. These shoes have great traction on snow (you'll still have to walk like a duck when walking on ice), and fit snugly. The design does expose the back of the heel, but that doesn't get as cold as bare toes do.
