The M-Sport Stobart driver was presented with the card from Norway’s head of state this afternoon by Ford Team Principal Malcolm Wilson. Stoltenberg has met Solberg on several occasions and wanted to commemorate the landmark event by sending his fellow Norwegian a personally signed card.

The Focus RS WRC Edition will be powered by the same boosted inline five cylinder engine cranking out a total of 305 HP, with the only changes being made to the car’s exterior.

As part of a design contest that took place in the neutral European nation, the winner saw their graphics package applied to a Frozen White Focus RS that rolls around on a set of OZ Superturismo GT wheels measuring 19 inches in diameter, while the interior of the limited edition rally inspired Focus gets autographed by the factory Ford driver and flying Finn Mikko Hirvonen as well as his co-driver Jarmo Lehtinen to complete the authentic World Rally Championship experience.

In between the Focus going on sale in the U.S. as a 2000 model and Mulally  taking over, product development in Europe and North America took off in different directions. Hence, Europe was rewarded with a heavily reworked second-generation Focus in 2004. The next year, North America got a warmed-over version of the first-gen Focus sedan and hatchback.
                                              2012 ford focus rs
Starting in early 2011, the Focus in both North America and Europe will be the same vehicle. This is to be applauded because there was a big gap between the European Focus and the machine sold here. The European car improved on the basic goodness of the original, with better interior quality and driving dynamics. The U.S. car essentially stayed put: The original Focus was good enough to be a C/D 10Best winner, but the competition moved on, leaving the current version dead last in a recent small-car comparo.
                                           2012 ford focus rs
The 2012 Focus certainly looks terrific, especially in five-door form. The engineers and designers felt able to make the Focus sportier (by lowering its seating position and overall height) due to the upcoming C-Max—a tall-roof, five- or seven-seat derivative off this platform—that fulfills the family-car mission. Compared with the current U.S. Focus, the new car is 0.5 inch lower (at 58.1 inches tall) and 3.0 inches longer (178.0 inches overall), and it has a 1.3-inch-longer wheelbase (104.2 inches). The 2012 model’s dimensions are close to the current Euro car’s, save for a wider track and lower stance.
                                             2012 ford focus rs
A new body in white employs high-strength steel for 55 percent of the structure, the highest of any U.S. Ford. Torsional rigidity is up by 25 percent over that of the current Focus. Under the skin, the layout of the strut front and multilink rear suspension stands pat, but many pieces are revised. According to Gunnar Herrmann, the vehicle line director for global C-segment: “The carry-over on the platform is effectively only seven percent. We have changed almost everything.”
                                           2012 ford focus rs
At launch, the Focus will get a new 2.0-liter, direct-injection four-cylinder that has variable intake- and exhaust-valve timing. Ford says the engine will put out 155 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque. Later on, expect a sportier engine. Jim Hughes, the chief nameplate engineer for the Focus in North America, adds, “We’ll eventually get an EcoBoost [turbocharged DI] engine in the Focus.” We’re thinking a 1.6-liter making more than 200 horsepower in a sporty ST model.
                                           2012 ford focus rs
The Focus will go on sale with two available transmissions: a base six-speed manual and a very fancy six-speed dual-clutch gearbox co-developed with Getrag. Derrick Kuzak, the global product-development chief, says: “There will be no conventional automatic on this car.” Electric power steering is a new feature, along with “torque vectoring,” which, similar to the systems of many other automakers, uses the anti-lock brakes to approximate a limited-slip differential.
                                             2012 ford focus rs
The interior looks like a winner, but there’s a caveat: The styling mockup we examined had hard surfaces, even if Ford assures us everything will be soft-touch in the production version. The mockup had cool piano-black and aluminum finishes and a stitched dashboard. This upscale trim is called “Titanium” in Europe, and it’s hard to imagine that the base U.S. model, which should still retail around the current car’s $16,690 price, will look as stylish.

Nissan leaf

                                    Nissan leaf
                                         Nissan leaf

Leaf upcoming Nissan hatchback electric car will move closer to the real world, and far beyond the few boutique electric vehicles available to consumers today. Leaves will almost certainly be first in the next generation of pure electric cars from a large volume, a major producer of cars. It runs on batteries without any combustion engine or electric motor to supplement the electricity produced, and designed for specific drivers for everyday use. Leaves should be available to consumers in the United States before the end of 2010, according to Nissan.

                                                Nissan leaf

Slightly larger than the subcompact Nissan Versa familiar, the zero-emission cars Leaf is excited with room for five and the cargo space is good. Its 100-mile range beyond the everyday needs of all but the farthest trip passengers, and it's loaded with things that are meant to make ownership easier.

                                             Nissan leaf
Secret Leaves, and probably the closest thing to a breakthrough, which was hidden in the battery pack. Except widely praised beats hybrid Chevy Volt to the market, Leaf will be volume-produced car first with a lithium-ion batteries. Now familiar in laptops, mobile phones and other small devices, Li-ion batteries has long been considered not suitable for automotive applications. Nissan, though, they have developed for that purpose together with NEC since 1992 electronic
                                             Nissan leaf
Leaf battery is actually an array sheets laminated lithium-ion batteries made of manganese. Each rectangular sheet 12-by-10 inches, about half an inch thick, arranged in modules of heavy metal-encased total 395 pounds. Nissan says Li-ion battery has twice the storage capacity of any battery used in automotive applications today. They are in charge of and operate at a lower temperature than lead-acid or ni-cad battery, according to the engineer, and after five years of daily drain cycle, they remain 80 percent of its original capacity

                                              Nissan leaf

The value of Li-ion battery is quite simple: It gives Leaves various plug-160 kilometers per charge, or check under 100 miles, in a typical urban driving cycle. According to Transportation Department data, 98 percent of all drivers Americans drive less than 100 miles per day.

                                             Nissan leaf
Nissan is still a bit vague about the launch plans for the leaf, if it is called a leaf when it went on sale in the United States. The company says the car must be available to fleet customers in the second half of 2010, with general retail sales in key markets like California shortly thereafter. Nissan's next generation Li-ion battery, which is maybe twice the reach of the car, according to the company, could be ready by the year 2012, when the leaves should be available in dealerships nationwide
                                             Nissan leaf
Guessing by placing a retail price between $ 24,000 and $ 30,000. The battery alone currently costs $ 10,000 to produce, according to one Nissan engineer. At the retail level, the batteries may be leased to the buyer leaves, so the cost is not necessarily reflected in the price of the car.

The most exciting high performance new Dodge Challenger variant to date has got to be the brand new SMS 570 Challenger, introduced this week by Steve Saleen's brand new factory tuning Dodge performance division, SMS Supercars.

After Steve Saleen's tumultous departure from the OEM tuning company he built from the ground up, Saleen Inc., the automotive industry was rapt with speculation for what the King of the American Car would come up with next. Since the days of the Fox-bodied 5.0, Saleen Mustangs and all manner of muscle cars have lit up boulevards and bedroom walls from sea to shining sea. But after leaving Saleen, Inc., it was time for something brand new.

That time is now, and if a stock Dodge Challenger is not enough for your tastes, the SMS 570 Challenger can now be ordered from any Dodge dealership as a turnkey red light racer for delivery soon, that is if you can swing the SMS 570 base price of $64,870.

The 570 employs the patented and redesigned Cadillac of supercharging systems, the SMS296. The sophisticated system employs features dual thin-core intercoolers with single pass coolant flow, and custom asymmetric multi-lobe compression screws.

The results? 500 bhp in SMS 570 trim, or 700 bhp in the pricier and racier "X" variant from a big boosted and reworked version of the Challenger's stock-displacement HEMI.

Like the Saleen Mustangs of old, these new Challengers will be available to the consumer through Dodge and offered with a factory warranty. There's a lot to like here, and we look forward to seeing what else Steve Saleen and SMS Supercars have up their sleeves.

2008 Ronn Motor Company Scorpion

Introducing the Scorpion: A 40 mpg, Hydrogen-Powered True Supercar

The Ronn Motor Company Scorpion, for which Ronn Motor Company is now taking orders, makes some bold new claims that are shaking up the sports car world.

The Scorpion, the company says, will produce 450 horsepower by way of a twin turbocharged Acura TL-sourced VTEC V6, coupled with a Ronn Motor Company proprietary system that creates 130 octane hydrogen fuel on the fly using electrical energy produced by the car's powertrain. Ronn claims the Scorpion will achieve 40 mpg highway by mixing the hydrogen fuel with gasoline at a variable ratio based on needs.

The Ronn Motor Company Scorpion is a beautiful, lightweight hydrogen power supercar, with styling unlike anything else on the market today. Whether or not these hydrogen-powered sports cars will be on the road in mass numbers any time soon is another story, but the Ronn Scorpion is certainly generating a lot of buzz in the automotive world.

Has Ronn Motor Company found a solution to the hybrid performance question? Sports car enthusiasts don't buy the Toyota Prius, and wouldn't drive one if you paid them. The Scorpion looks to have the guts to appeal to this market, and the styling to find its way onto the pages of wall calendars everywhere.

Acura HSC Displayed at Detroit Auto Show

The HSC (High-Performance Sports Concept) is a design study combining the ultimate in supercar performance with the interior comfort and handling ease of a daily driver. It features a lightweight body, a compact yet powerful engine and a racing-inspired interior.

The High-Performance Sports Concept features a lightweight 3.5-liter V-6 engine located midship for optimum balance and superior handling. Shifting is accomplished through a unique dial shifter located on the center console or an F-1 style paddle shifter located on the steering wheel.

The HSC features a 4-wheel double wishbone suspension with six-piston caliper Brembo disc brakes on each wheel. Five-spoke forged aluminum alloy racing wheels are shod with 245/35ZR19 tires in front and 295/30ZR20 tires in the rear.

The HSC body is composed of carbon fiber panels over an all-aluminum unit body frame. Short overhangs and a 104.7-inch wheelbase maximize handling and agility.

The cockpit is rounded and sleek for an aggressive look as well as increased visibility. A clear glass engine cover, located behind the cockpit, shows off the engine. The lower body boasts a low waistline, rectangular air intakes on both sides, curvaceous fenders, scissor-style doors and sharp lines that leave no doubt to the concept's sporty nature.

The wedge-shaped front fascia includes large, lower air ducts, projector-style HID headlamps and smooth lines for enhanced aerodynamics. In the rear, high-illumination LEDs are incorporated into the taillight housing for a visibility-enhancing three-dimensional design. Dual exhaust tips are integrated into the bumper and a rearview camera, located next to the taillights, transmits the view behind the car to the driver via the navigation system tilt-up screen when the concept shifts into reverse.

Inside, the concept features a race inspired cockpit with black nubuck leather trim and anodized aluminum accents on the door panels, center console, steering wheel and meter housings. Dual gauge clusters feature a tachometer/shift meter on the left and an analog/digital speedometer on the right. A thick, leather-wrapped performance steering wheel and aluminum foot pedals offer increased road feedback and precise control.

Honda recently confirmed HSC as the basis for its next generation supercar, the car to replace the fabled NSX.
